8,000 Runners to take on Half Marathon Challenge
The Lifestyle Sports-adidas Dublin Half Marathon, the penultimate hurdle in the race to the finish in October, takes place on Saturday week; 26th September. Entry for the Half Marathon closed early last week as a maximum field of 8,000 runners have already signed up to pound the paths of the Phoenix Park.
The record crowd is in keeping with the phenomenal numbers experienced for the preceding five and ten mile races and with the increasing popularity of running in general.
Commenting on the success of the race series, the Lifestyle Sports-adidas Dublin Marathon Race Director Jim Aughney said; “When we first started to toy with the idea of the race series, nine years ago now, we never anticipated that it would establish itself as it has. To have 8,000 people signed up for a race that started out with a modest 200 people in 2002 is something that we are all very excited about.”
“If the success of the Series is anything to go by then hopefully the 30th anniversary of the Dublin Marathon will also enjoy record numbers. The Irish entry numbers are already up on what they were this time last year.”
Last year over 11,700 people signed up for the Lifestyle Sports-adidas Dublin Marathon making it the most successful Marathon since 1981, when an entry of 11,076 was recorded.
