Alistair Cragg finishes 7th in New York Half Marathon
Peter Kamais and Mara Yamauchi won the New York half marathon earlier to-day. Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia, the favorite and leader for the first 8 miles, dropped out of the race with asthma, leaving Peter Kamais of Kenya to finish the race in a new record time 59:53. His country man Moses Kignen-Kipkosgei finished in second place in 60:38 with Mohammed Trafeh of the United States third with a time of 1:00.40. Alistair Cragg had a great debut finishing 7th in 61:58.
In the womens race Mara Yamauchi of Great Britain finished in also a new course record time 1:09:17. She broke the previous record time set by Catherine Ndereba in 2006.Yamauchi passed Deena Kastor in the late stages of the race, Kastor finished second in 1:09:43. Madai Perez finished two seconds behind Kastor for third place.
