Series Hopefuls set for Park Run- 2010 Lifestyle Sports-adidas Race Series gets underway

What do Cork hurler Aisaike Ó’hAilpín, Jimmy Deenihan T.D. and TV Broadcaster and fashion guru Holly White have in common? Next month they will join an expected field of over 5,000 runners in the Phoenix Park for the first event in the Lifestyle Sports – adidas Race Series, the Irish Runner 5-Mile.

The unlikely trio took an early morning jog in the Phoenix Park earlier today, Tuesday 22nd June, to check out the route of the five mile race and remind runners the deadline for the first race is just a week away, with no late entries allowed after Wednesday 30th June.

The Lifestyle Sports – adidas Race Series is a three part series with a 5 mile race in July, a 10 mile race in August and a Half Marathon in September. Now in its 9th year, the series has enjoyed a huge boom in numbers, with over 15,000 runners, joggers and walkers taking part last year. Almost 4,000 runners have already signed up for the five mile on the 17th July.

“We have had a huge surge in numbers again this year” said Race Director Jim Aughney, “We have to close of the race entries on the 30th so we can ensure that people have their race numbers and all the details they need in advance of race day”

“This is essential given the large numbers we expect to have arriving to the race start on the 17th. People will be able to collect their numbers in advance from Lifestyle Sports in Blanchardstown on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th July.

Holly White is a Lifestyle Sports – adidas official Race Series Ambassador and signed up back in April. She has been training for the last 2 months for her first ever race. Models Sarah McGovern, Laura Toogood and Nadia Forde are also running, while Deenihan is running with a group of Leinster House colleagues. Ó’hAilpín is hoping to be running with a Munster Senior Hurling medal, if he can help lead his side to victory over Waterford in the Munster Hurling Final, the Sunday prior to the race.

“Obviously, any training I’ll be doing over the next few weeks will be geared towards Sunday 11th July” said O’hAilpín, “I won’t be doing anything to jeopardise my fitness and training for the game, and hopefully I’ll come through that injury free and fit and ready for the challenge then on the 17th”

Ó’hAilpín, Holly, Forde, McGovern, Toogood and Deenihan have been wearing adidas running apparel, with ClimaCoolTM , which actively conducts heat and sweat away from the body and the adidas Supernova running shoe, a lightweight and non-restrictive shoe, which provides support and grip for high traction, and is available from Lifestyle Sports stores nationwide.
