Kathryn Thomas announced as race ambassador for the National Lottery Dublin Marathon

Today, in Dublin’s Phoenix Park, the National Lottery announced Kathryn Thomas as Race Ambassador for the National Lottery Dublin Marathon 2011.

Kathryn will participate in the National Lottery’s Dublin Race Series in the preparatory lead up to the Dublin Marathon which will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, 31 October 2011 and will be broadcast live on RTE 2.

Dermot Griffin, National Lottery Chief Executive said:
“We are delighted to have Kathryn Thomas involved in the run up to this year’s National Lottery Dublin Marathon. We’re sure that her enthusiasm and energy will be a great boost to this year’s event. We are also confident that her participation will encourage and help individuals who have never run in any race to do so this year.”

He continued:
“We look forward to plenty of fun and excitement in both the Dublin Race Series and Dublin Marathon this year.”
As part of its sponsorship of the overall Dublin Marathon event, the National Lottery is proudly sponsoring the Dublin Marathon Race Series. This encompasses three race distances which will take place in the Phoenix Park - one in July, August and September 2011. The 2011 National Lottery Dublin Race Series comprises the following distances:

Saturday 16 July 2011: Irish Runner 5 mile
Saturday 20 August 2011: Frank Duffy 10 Mile
Saturday 17 September 2011: Dublin Half-Marathon

The Race Series provides the perfect build-up to the National Lottery Dublin Marathon. Last year over 20,000 people took part in the Race Series, making the event a huge success. Entry is now open; individuals can register online at www.dublinmarathon.ie

National Lottery good causes benefit from all draws, with one third of all sales (approx) going to fund Beneficiary projects around the country, as designated by Government.

Since the National Lottery was launched, over €3.6 billion has been raised for good causes. This level of funding has made a significant difference to communities, projects and individuals in the areas of Youth, Sports, Recreation, Amenities, Health, Welfare, Arts, Culture, National Heritage and the Irish Language.
