Results of Irish Runner 5 Mile now available.

Gary O’Hanlon from Clonliffe Harriers took the honours in this year’s 11th annual Irish Runner 5 mile race. O’Hanlon finished the Phoenix Park route in a time of 24.53, followed closely by his team mate Brian Mac Mahan and Peter Matthews (Dundrum South Dublin).

There was very little distance between the elite runners along the course as they led the 5,000 plus entries in a tight pack from the outset, but in the final stretch it was O’Hanlon who pulled ahead for a convincing win at the Furze Road finish line.

“It was a tough course, conditions weren’t great and I was racing the night before so found the first mile a little hard on my legs.” O’Hanlon commented after the race.

O’Hanlon continued, “I stuck with my team mate Brian Mac Mahon but kicked off from him with 300 metres to go to win the race.”

In the women\\\'s race, Siobhan O’Doherty from Borrisokane ran the fastest time of 28.02. Speaking after the race Siobhan commented that:

“It was so tough with a lot of hills, windy weather conditions held me back a little but overall I’m pretty happy with my time and performance”

Today’s race in Phoenix Park is the first of a four part Dublin Race Series adopted by the Marathon to help prepare athletes for the Marathon on October 29th.

The next race in the series will be the Fingal 10K run which will take place in Swords, North County Dublin on Sunday July 22nd. To enter see:
