Dublin Marathon
GENERAL RULES and regulations

The Marathon is organised by the Business Houses Athletic Association (BHAA). The race will incorporate the National Marathon of Ireland (AAI) and will be run under the rules of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).  This year’s event will take place on 31st October starting at 10am.

You must be eighteen on or before the race date to be eligible to enter.  

N. B. It is recommended that any potential participant not currently involved in physical sporting activity, should undertake a medical examination before taking part in the marathon.

REGISTRATION FEES

Entries must be received by 17:00 hrs. on Monday 5th October.

There will be no late entries at registration or on race day.

All entry fees are non-refundable and Marathon Events Management Ltd retains the right to refuse entry to anyone declaring false information on their entry, not making the required payment, or otherwise failing to meet the stated entry requirements.

METHOD OF PAYMENT

Registration fees must be paid using one of the following methods:

Online credit card payment (Laser, Visa or MasterCard) in Euros,

Payment by cheque, from people with a euro account in an Irish Bank or Bank draft payable to Marathon Events Management Ltd and sent to Dublin Marathon, C/O Donore Harriers Sports complex, Chapelizod, Dublin 20.

Traveller’s Cheques, Euro Cheques and international postal orders are not accepted.

CONDITION OF ENTRY

It is a prerequisite of entry that people accept the rules and regulations of the event before your entry is accepted. You enter the Dublin Marathon at your own risk and that neither the Business Houses Athletic Association, Marathon Events Management Ltd., Asics, Elverys Sports Ltd, Dublin City Council, fm104 , Duchas, Skoda, SPAR or any of our sponsors will be held responsible for any accident suffered or injury sustained by you from any cause whatsoever or for any property lost, mislaid or stolen on the course or at the start / finish areas. Marathon Events Management Ltd. expresses stakeholder acceptance of the World Anti-Doping Code. The Code and the International Standards came into force on January 1st, 2004. It is a condition of entry that participants adhere to this code.

REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION

Registration confirmation e-mails, will be sent to all valid registrations shortly after completing your online registration. You will be sent an acceptance slip in early October detailing your Race / Bib number. This should be kept carefully, and brought with you to the Expo, to facilitate Race / BIB number and Chip collection.

RACE / BIB NUMBERS AND RACE PACKETS

Race / BIB number and  Chip collection is at The Main Hall, R.D.S. Ballsbridge, Dublin 4, and runs from 12:00 to 18:00 hrs on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th of October. There will be no race number collection facility on race day.

AT THE TIME OF RACE / BIB NUMBER PICK UP.

Athletes must present the signed acceptance letter or e-mail with a valid ID.

RACE START TIME

Wheelchair participants will start at 9.55am and the first  wave start at 10:00, the second at 10:10 and the last at 10:20am.  Participants must begin the marathon during the official starts and complete the marathon course within 7 hours (18 minute mile pace) i.e. the course will close at 18 minute mile pace. No aids, such as roller-skates, baby joggers, in line blades, cycles or other non-official wheeled vehicles are permitted on the course.

MAXIMUM TIME

The maximum race time is 7 hours.

TIMING CHIP

Each competitor taking part in the event must wear on Official Race Chip, failure to do so will mean no official place or time will be published for you.

RACE / BIB NUMBERS

All participants must write their name and details of any health problems or medication on the reverse of the race number, which must be worn on the front of shirts during the race.

RACE CHECKPOINTS

Race judges may disqualify athletes not having passed through the regular checkpoints set up along the racecourse.

WITDRAWING FROM THE RACE

Medical assistance areas will be roughly every 5km and an emergency First Aid Station will be placed just off the finish area. Limited pickup assistance will also be provided for those athletes withdrawing from the race. Specialised physical therapists are available for sport massages just beyond the finish area.

If I become ill during or after the Event and/or receive medical attention or treatment either from event medical staff, St John Ambulance or any doctor or hospital, I authorize such persons to provide my details (including details of medical treatment) to the Medical Director of the Dublin Marathon or others authorized by him.

AFTER THE MARATHON

Athletes crossing the finish line will be awarded a medal. Free rankings and participation certificates will be available online www.dublinmarathon.ie during the days following the event

INDIVIDUAL PRIZES

On race day, the overall winners for the men’s and women’s categories will be awarded a cash prize, please see web site for the list. Course Record (CR) time bonus, if broken by more than one individual, is awarded solely to the overall male/female winner.

IMAGE RIGHTS

As a registered participant in the Dublin Marathon, each athlete expressly authorises the organisation, together with its partners, to use fixed or moving images taken of him/her to be used for any legitimate purpose.  Authorisation is considered unlimited and may be used the world throughout or included in mediums, such as promotional and/or advertising materials, publications and videos and includes eventual extensions to the foreseen timeframe.

APPEALS

Appeals must be presented in writing to Race Director no later than 30 minutes following the race’s conclusion, along with € 50 (non-refundable, unless accepted).

PACING OF ATHLETES

Race judges may disqualify athletes who are paced by person or persons on bicycles on the race route.

MISCELLANEOUS

The Organising Committee reserves the right to vary any clause stipulated in the current Rules and Regulations at any time, due to force majeure. Marathon Officials reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to modify, supplement or waive all of the Official Rules. Participants shall be bound by any modification or supplement of the Official Rules published prior to the Marathon.

Failure to follow these Official Rules, as may be amended, will result in immediate disqualification, loss of prize money and ejection from the race.
